It’s a good day for Horizon Zero Dawn fans. The most recent update adds Nvidia DLSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution to the game, giving gamers better performance than ever before.

Horizon Zero Dawn fans who have been requesting a greater degree of performance from the PC edition of the blockbuster post-apocalyptic adventure game have had their wish granted by Guerrilla Games.
Horizon Zero Dawn has gotten a new update that adds NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution to the game, letting people with lesser hardware to experience the title at higher resolutions and/or settings with greater frame rates, as described in a post on the official subreddit today. Horizon Zero Dawn’s PC version came with AMD’s FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) for better graphics, however it has now been removed in favor of red team’s newer and possibly superior spatial upscaling approach.
According to Guerrilla’s post on r/horizon, the patch includes the following:
Enhancements to the Graphics
- Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology has been included.
- Replaced FidelityFX CAS with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution.
Changes to the User Interface
- The settings page has been tweaked to make it easier to add DLSS and FSR.
- The Render Scale option has been deleted, but the same effect may now be achieved by switching to Simple Upscale Method and modifying Upscale Quality.
Enhancements to Performance
- The shader management mechanism has been improved. There will be a few apparent alterations as a consequence of this:
- On startup, there is no longer a shader pre-compilation process. During loading and in the background, the game will always build shaders.
- Background shader compilation used to cause stutters during gameplay, however this is no longer the case.
- Because shader compilation is still taking place in the background, you may notice that the game’s CPU use is greater during this time.
- The loading windows will not appear until all of the needed shaders have been properly built. On certain computers, this may cause loading screens to take longer.
- Due to more effective shader compilation that better uses high-end CPUs, loading screens on higher spec PCs with faster CPUs will often be shorter.
Horizon Forbidden West, the much anticipated sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, will be published on PlayStation 5 systems on February 18, 2022. There seems to be no hint of when the inevitable PC version will be ready.
